GLEN MILLS – Rep. Steve Barrar (R-Chester/Delaware) is hosting a REAL ID informational session on Thursday, May 16, from 6-8 p.m. at Garnet Valley Middle School auditorium, 601 Smithbridge Road, Glen Mills.
PennDOT will share information about REAL ID and answer questions from the audience. Additionally, staff will be available to preliminarily review people’s REAL ID documents to ensure they have what they need when they visit a driver license center.
“I have heard from some residents of the 160th District about the frustration they experienced as they have tried to obtain a REAL ID. As the process is new for everyone, I wanted to host an event to clear up any confusion and give people the opportunity to make sure they have the documents they need before spending a weekend morning at the DMV – only to find out the documents they have are insufficient,” Barrar said.
The federal REAL ID law established guidelines for states to provide new and more secure forms of identification cards. In the future, residents will need these new REAL ID cards, or another form of federally accepted identification, such as a passport, to enter federal buildings, including courthouses, as well as to board commercial flights.
Residents who would like their REAL ID materials to be reviewed should bring original versions or certified copies of the necessary documents:
• Proof of identity
: Birth certificate with raised seal, issued by an authorized government agency, or valid U.S. passport.
• Social Security card
• Proof of all legal name changes
: marriage certificate, court order or divorce decree issued by resident’s county’s family court.
• Two proofs of current, physical Pennsylvania address
: current, unexpired Pennsylvania license or ID and a bank statement or utility bill that is no more than 90 days old with the same name and address.
It is not necessary to RSVP for the event, but residents are asked to call Barrar’s office at 610-358-5925 with any questions.
