HARRISBURG – This morning Rep. Stephen Barrar (R-Chester/Delaware), chairman of the House Veterans Affairs and Emergency Preparedness Committee (VAEP), joined House Speaker Mike Turzai (R-Allegheny) and other members of the VAEP committee in welcoming U.S. Secretary of the Navy Richard V. Committee to Vote on Bills to Aid Volunteer Fire, EMS Service Providers

WHAT: Rep. Steve Barrar (R-Chester/Delaware), chairman of the House Veterans Affairs and Emergency Preparedness (VAEP) Committee, will hold a voting meeting at the state Capitol to consider a package of bills to benefit volunteer fire and ambulance companies and help in the recruitment, retention and care of first responders. Many of the bills under consideration stem from recommendations from a study by the SR6 Commission, which aims to ensure the viability of volunteer fire and EMS services in the Commonwealth.

Barrar’s Landmark Legislation Offering College Education to PA National Guard Families Signed into Law

HARRISBURG – Representing a win for Pennsylvania National Guard members and their families, landmark legislation drafted by Reps. Steve Barrar (R-Chester/Delaware) and Chris Sainato (D-Lawrence) was signed into law. It offers a free college education that can be shared with the member’s spouse and/or child in exchange for a Pennsylvania National Guard member’s six-year reenlistment.

Lawmakers to Dedicate Vans to Provide Transportation for Vets

WHAT: Seven vans will be dedicated during the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) Van Transportation “Drive-Away” ceremony. The program provides free transportation to Veterans Affairs medical facilities for veterans’ VA health care appointments. The vans are driven by DAV volunteers.
