Delaware County House Republicans Comment on Trainer Refinery Deal
HARRISBURG - The Delaware County House Republican Delegation issued the following joint statement on the sale agreement announced today between ConocoPhillips and Delta Airlines:

“The deal announced between ConocoPhillips and Delta Airlines is a great victory for the Commonwealth, Delaware County, and all those who live and work in our region.

“With this sales agreement, nearly 400 jobs will be directly saved, not to mention countless other jobs and industries that support the local economy.

“We applaud Delta’s innovative approach to handle the cost of rising fuel prices and the impact it has on the airline industry. This historic decision will stand as the first time an airline has ever owned a refinery. Delta’s investment in this region and the workers of Delaware County represents the ingenuity and pioneering attitude that make U.S. businesses second to none.

“Governor Tom Corbett should be commended for his relentless effort to ensure this facility continues operating as a refinery. Under Corbett’s direction, the Commonwealth invested $30 million in this project. The governor recognizes protecting current Pennsylvania jobs and creating additional jobs are important issues facing Pennsylvania today.

“We are proud to have worked with the governor to make sure Pennsylvania is a place that welcomes businesses. The deal between ConocoPhillips and Delta Airlines is proof that our efforts are working. We are energized by this positive outcome at the Trainer refinery and remain committed to working with local, state and federal officials so that we can achieve similar success stories for the two remaining refineries in this region.”

The Delaware County House Republican Delegation includes Reps. Bill Adolph (R-Springfield), Stephen E. Barrar (R-Upper Chichester), Joe Hackett (R-Folsom), Tom Killion (R-Newtown Square), Nick Miccarelli (R-Ridley Park) and Nick Micozzie (R-Clifton Heights).
