Barrar Sworn in to Eighth Term

He will serve as the majority chairman of the Veterans Affairs and Emergency Preparedness Committee

Rep. Stephen E. Barrar (R-Chester/Delaware) took the oath of office today to begin his eighth term representing the people of the 160th District in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives.

“It is such an honor to continue to serve the people of Chester and Delaware counties,” said Barrar.  “We will certainly face challenges this session, but I am hopeful the new leadership in the House and the new administration will be able to resolve many of the pressing issues in Pennsylvania.  Job creation, balancing the budget and addressing property taxes must be our top priorities.”

Barrar, former Republican chairman of the Tourism and Recreational Development Committee, will now take the reins of the Veterans Affairs and Emergency Preparedness Committee.  He will be the majority chairman for the committee, which oversees legislation dealing with veterans’ issues, disaster relief, fire and emergency services matters, and the capital budget for state armories and National Guard equipment.

As one of the few Vietnam War veterans in the Pennsylvania Legislature, Barrar noted what a great honor it is to chair a committee devoted to legislating veterans’ issues.

“I am looking forward to advancing legislation that will make a real difference in the lives of veterans, who have done so much for Pennsylvania and the United States,” said Barrar.  “I have always been tied to the veterans community in my district, and this is an opportunity for me to work with veterans from across the Commonwealth.  My office has been facilitating special assistance for veterans since last summer, and this committee assignment is well suited for my experience and interests.”
